City of Bend website

Has anyone been to the City of Bend website? I have to say that overall it is very functional. It has many informative and relevant links and you can find just about anything you need. Personally I don’t care for the structure of the site much. Don’t get me wrong; it is very useful if you own or operate a business or work for the city and need certain types of information but for the average web surfer it is not largely intuitive.

If you wanted to find any real information on how to get around or community events or anything that most people would want or need to know; you have to know where to look. For instance if you wanted to find out the weather or any events you would need to go to the link for visitors. Don’t get me wrong that information is important for visitors as well but I would think it would be on the main site and not just on a separate website for visitors.

All in all I think the website looks nice but the business aspect should be what is put in the background and not the aesthetics that are the reason most of us live here.

Cyberculture revealed

When you mention cyberculture to most people they think of some kind of “modern Goth” or someone with a purple mohawk and peircings playing video games all night. While that part of the culture does exist that is only a small part of the whole.

The reality about this particular venue of virtual reality is that is spans every walk of life and every aspect of our digital world. Bend, like anyplace else in the world has its own cyberculture niche to bring into the light. Just about everything we can do outside the computer we can do on the computer.

So here we are; part of the largest culture of the modern age and didn’t even know it. How are each of us participating?
